update here: out of desperation we ended up calling a 24hr, 60-minute service (see below)...

but we could still use a referral for a reliable/reasonable electrician...

Responsive, competent, but incredibly expensive

Out of desperation on a hot Saturday we called these guys to come out to figure out why our AC kept overloading the circuit.

To their credit, they were very responsive, showed up within about an hour, quickly diagnosed and seemed to do a fine job repairing the problem--replacing a circuit breaker on our panel.

The downside was the price. Staggeringly expensive for the time/parts spent. I'm embarrassed to even say. But I wasn't about to tell Debby that I sent them home because it was too expensive. I would only use them again in case of an "emergency"

Hi Debby,

We use a guy Dan Hayes, in Palo Alto. Dan's been terrific and has many good references on P.A.M.P.

He came out and installed our flat panel, both hanging it and doing the wiring behind the wall with all sorts of cables, all for $500 which was a steal for both. He also didn't make much or any money on it because it took him a long time.

On other occasions we've used him for stuff around the house. He's fairly dependable in terms of showing up, very very neat and respectful and seems to do great work. On one occasion he didn't call us back :-( (probably b/c of above)

Hope this helps!
