cooktop for island

in the thick of the kitchen remodel now and need to make a decision on the cooktop very soon: 5 or 6 burner? from the browsing I've done it looks like the 6-burner in a 36" is a little more cramped? or is that my imagination? any advice for this - I do know I want gas... and we cook a lot... any fav brands?

When we bought our house it had a Wolf commercial gas/oven stove from about 1990 with 6 big burners and two ovens... it's been by far the best appliance we have. It's very simple (no digital readouts, no bells or beeps) but the 6 big/strong gas burners are just great for lots of cooking. It's been very reliable. I have heard however that modern consumer Wolf stoves are not really built the same way, so they may not be as reliable.

The only downside is that it generates a fair amount of heat -- lots of pilot lights. We keep the pilot for one of the ovens off all the time.

It is also very big (you'd really need to design the whole kitchen around it) so it may not work at all for your island.

It might be a bit "out there," but if you're adventurous you might want to look at some commercial (i.e., restaurant-grade) stoves.
