I know I'm not the target demographic here, but I DID grow up in a family of curly (frizzy!) haired folks... in the humid mid west.Aveda Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner is awesome. Super moisture rich so it tames the curl without being too heavy. I also like Garnier Smoothing Milk to style my hair. Definitely keeps things under control without the wet look. Also, my mom loves Graham Webb products.
alright - i do consider myself the expert here, and for anyone who knows me, knows that this has been the struggle of my life - battling the frizz.i have finally found two product lines that are really good. Although i too like some Aveda products -for those folks out there that are still distressed I use the complete line of Curlisto. If you go onto their website, you can even watch videos as to what products to use and how to use them. They have different ones for different kinds of curls. I sometimes also use a product line called Devachan. I love the gel (an-gel). Both product lines have a salon to go with them and people are trained specifically in curly hair. I found a hair dresser who was Devachan trained and is rated best in Philly for curly hair. I am still battling the frizz during those East Coast humid days, but at least there is some light in my very long tunnel
Thanks for the advice on the aveda moss products - I just ordered some and will let you know how it works out. I read the description and it looks like they put moss from iceland in it to counteract frizziness! How funny... I also ordered the garnier smoothing milk and am hoping that it works out since it is significantly less money than the other products.
well, I was in the buying mood so I bought some of the curlisto products as well. We can have a little competition here...
if I don't win - I will make all the curly heads spend a week on the humid east coast - THEN we just might have a competition.
I haven't tried the Aveda products yet, but I did give the smoothing milk a try - it left my hair, well, a little frizzy! However, I will say it was the cheapest one of the products that I bought, so I am not really any poorer for the experiment. I appreciated the idea, though!
I have really curly and thick hair. I strighten it half of the time, but I try not to wash it that much because curly hair tends to be dry. But... When I do..... I love kerastase the serum before I blow dry or even when curly. Takes out the frizz and smells good. Also, I use a spot of conditioner (redken all soft at the moment) the size of a quarter after I get out of the shower. I put it on the ends and run my fingers through and that usually gives me good curls when it dries.
I haven't done a side-by-side yet, but I did try the curlisto shampoo today and my hair looked extra curly and not so frizzy, so I am giving the curlisto shampoo two thumbs up!
that a girl. now try the styling gel l, i use ll, but i think l is better for you, also the structura lotion has saved my life. i use like 3 other things but i do not think you are in my same boat.
As a curly hair product junkie, I think I've tried about everything out there. For shampoos and conditioners, I use Catwalk Tigi's Curls Rock shamp/cond. which I alternate with their Oatmeal and Honey shamp/cond. While my hair is wet, I use Curlisto's Repair Styling Cream (I'm not a big fan of the other Curlisto products, but I LOVE the Styling Cream). Then I spray Catwalk Tigi's Frisky Scrunching Gel (a little bit), and then use a little bit of Tigi's Curls Rock Amplifyer (this is very thick and sticky - do NOT use a lot). Then I blow dry, etc. For a much cheaper product which I also like, you can use Garnier Fructis' Curl Shaping Spray Hair Gel. For those of you with curly hair, remember, you shouldn't be washing your hair every day. You should only wash it every 3 days or so. When you wash it every day, it dries it out and makes your curls frizzier. The natural oils from your hair are great for your curls. (I condition my hair every day, but only wash it about twice a week.) Hope this helps!
