Parenting Expert

What topics would be interesting for an expert to share on for new parents? I am responsible for arranging parent seminars for parents of teens. We have great topics for those ages, but I am interested in expanding and wonder what would be interesting? Would parenting styles be important? or effective co-parenting strategies? How to limit set with toddlers?

See my review of "Siblings without Rivalry" below. Any book by these two authors is an excellent topic on its own. phenomenal stuff in this book. As I mention in my review, this is my bible.

Small-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-on  My other parenting bible

The first time I read this book, my twins were 1.5 years old. The book suggested letting the kids work it out on their own if possible (and suggestions for when this is not possible). This made me conscious of how much interfering and judging I was unconsciously participating in. Now I sit back, lend a sympathetic ear when necessary, and let them figure it out.

I re-read the book when my third kid was 1, and the twins were 4. They were struggling with his pestering. The main thing that I took away from the book was to validate their feelings, instead of saying "he's only a baby". In order to let the good feeling come out, it was necessary to first let the bad feelings out. It seems to work pretty well.

That is DEFINITELY an important topic and it sounds like you have been very proactive in figuring out this common concern that if left ignored or handled poorly can easily create resentment, low self-esteem and other bad feelings that carry with a person for a long time. Thanks for the suggestion!
