Questions

cough remedy?

Any ideas on cough remedies for kids? The cough medicine that we have tried doesn't seem to make a dent... any home remedy ideas are welcome as well.

I'm not sick very often, but when I am, theraflu seems to help.

I'm not sure if it is kid friendly but, it works for me. Maybe they make a childrens version?

If not, there is always 'tussin

Well, things we do are: humidifier, warm baths in a steamy room, mentholatum (mostly so that we're doing something), and a teaspon of honey (again, i think this is placebo and just makes us look like we're trying to help).

Honestly, we never completely fix the problem. Someone usually loses some sleep.

If I have a really miserable kid who can't sleep, I get up and nod through a middle-of-the-night hot bath and this usually gets everyone to sleep through until morning.

Hope you're all well and this is an academic question! :)

oh, I forgot about mentholatum, we will definitely give that a try. as for honey, we bought an 11$ bottle of buckwheat honey based on some "medical" studies. not sure if it helps though...

possible cough remedy

studies are now saying that buckwheat honey works better for coughs than OTC cough medicine. considering that cough medicines dont really work, I am not sure how much of a recommendation that is. we have been trying it and i am still not convinced, but at least we can give all the kids the honey with wild abandon and not feel like we are overmedicating.

Here is a sample link on a medical study, and it looks like there are more

yeah - you can pick it up at whole foods --phosphorus is another good one. stick 1 or 2 pellets(it will tell you more but you don't need them) under the tongue or let it disolve in a cup of water. taste like candy - but do not chew.
