Good contractors for back decks

Hello all,

I'm looking for a good contractor to do my back deck. The termites have pretty much finished it off. I'd like something decent, but not looking for top dollar.

Small-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-off  Great deck preserving/repair, general outdoor handyman stuff

Pros:

Very nice work, easy to work with, straightforward/fair estimating process, efficient, works well via email

Cons:  Quite opinionated about how best to refinish a deck

Bruce and his guys did a very nice job refinishing/repairing our deck.

(I don't think Bruce's company actually does deck construction, but I know he's happy to recommend some folks who do, and I'd trust his recommendation based on the work he did for us.)

One thing to note: Bruce is very biased against thick/heavy "coatings" to put on a deck, instead first sanding and then using a thinner preserving stain. The result is very nice, but has a very natural look/feel. If you have your heart set on a thick/shiny sheen, don't go with Bruce.

I liked that Bruce is comfortable using email for estimates, questions, etc.

A few months later he sent out a note seeing if we needed anything else done around the house, and his timing was perfect — we were happy to have his guys clean and paint our gutters, and they did a great job for a reasonable price. We'll use them again as more stuff comes up.

Bruce's email is bruce@calpreserving.com - Tell him Roy on Carta Blanca St in Cupertino referred you.
