good auto repair shop (Subaru) in Silicon Valley?

My 2003 Subaru Forester and I, along with the rest of the family, just moved down from SF to Silicon Valley. The rest of the family is fine but the Subaru needs some maintenance: 50k mile service, check on some squeaks, etc.

I'd like to avoid the overpriced dealer service (unless there is a Subaru dealer that anyone has found particularly great). Does anyone have a recommendation for a repair shop that is either OK-and-cheap or really terrific? Bonus points if they actually know Subarus.

I've got the same question. We've got 2 Subarus and could really use a good mechanic near by.

We've used Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City... they seem to do a good job but they're expensive.

Boris recommends this place highly but it's pretty far for us (Cupertino): http://mobspin.com/rating/blog/js-c6AlFXyI

May be too far "North Valley" for you, but we have had great experiences with A+ Japanese Auto in San Carlos. They do all kinds of Japanese cars and we used them primarily to nurse our Mazda back to health a few years ago.

I've gone to Mechanica Automotive in Mountain View and really liked them (788 San Antonio Rd; Palo Alto, CA 94303;
(650) 320-8116). I tried them out after reading a lot of positive reviews on Yelp:

I've gone there twice (clutch replaced on my Saab; advice on a possible coolant link on my BMW). I know nothing about cars but the owner seems like a straight shooter and has great customers service (when I called him a year after he worked on my Saab he actually remembered who I was and that he'd replaced the clutch; didn't charge me for the advice on my coolant problem; his wife gave me a ride to and from my office ~2 miles away).

If you try him out let me know what you think.

We use Pedro's Auto Clinic, on Terra Bella in MV (939 Terra Bella Ave Mountain View, CA 94043; Phone: (650) 968-8931). We've taken a Honda and a Dodge minivan there; don't know if they know Subarus but I think it's a good bet they do. They are reasonably priced, very knowledgeable, and don't push services you don't need. In fact, a few times he talked us out of repairs he thought were premature or not worth it.
