remember we used to go to Quincy market with the Riehls? I wonder if that cheesy tourist trap is still open. it could be entertaining...
Well, depends on when in the Fall (there is usually a 40 degree variance between Oct-Dec).If you are thinking about right now, a very good place to visit is the museum of fine arts. There is something for every age there, including children programs, etc. If you have younger children (2-6), there is the Children's museum, where kids can touch things, try them , play etc. The museum of science has a dome IMAX that shows pretty cool flicks and dancing laser shows. There is also a huge Van de Graaf generator they use to show how lightning is formed (ok, yes, I'm a geek!) If you dress warm and it is not too cold outside, you should definitely take a walk along the Charles River Esplanade, cross the Longfellow Bridge and then walk on Memorial Drive (in front of the MIT) for an awesome view of the Charles and Boston. You can start your walk at the Boston Commons, go up to the State Government House and walk down through the cobblestone streets in Beacon Hill for an absolutely gorgeous historical scene and then head out to the Esplanade. The Commons has an outdoors Ice Skating Rink that should be open this time of the year. Another nice historical venue is the USS Constitution, usually staffed with people dressed in the original outfits. They typically offer tours of the ship.
For the older people in the fam, you can go to the theatre district and catch a show like Blue Man Group or Stomp. Those are quite good. For the seafood lovers, Legal Sea Food offers a great New England Chowder and all sorts of great dishes. More on the commercial side of things, there is Little Italy around Hanover St where you can have the most amazing Cannoli at Mike's. If you want to do shopping, make sure you go to the Back Bay around Newbury Street and Copley Place. Enjoy your visit!
Ok, I was going to answer, but forget it now... Jorge must work for the Boston Department of Tourism. :)
Thank you for your detailed reply. The weather was cold so the group refused for most of the outdoor activities.
Well, while I do not work for the City, I will admit that Boston grew huge on us during the 8 yrs we lived there. Now that we have moved to Charlotte we really miss all the things available to you in Bean Town.Anybody who can recommend things to do with the fam in the fall around Charlotte ? ;-)
