making sushi

Location: Cupertino, CA

I want to start making sushi. Does anyone have advice on where to get the raw materials? (sushi rice, wasabi, ginger, seaweed etc)

whole foods has everything you need. you can go to china town if you are adventurous.

you want Nori seaweed, roll it shiny side in and lines horizontal
spread rice thinly on about 3/4 of sheet
put veggies etc about 1/4 way up rice
after the roll wet the end to seal the deal
make sure your knife is constantly wet and clean

wasabi comes powdered, just mix with water

hope this helps.

ah yes, whole paycheck. Actually, the reason I am interested in making my own sushi is because of a recent whole foods trip to pick up the exorbitantly priced pre-made stuff. Hopefully the raw materials are significantly less. thanks for the other tips as well!

I just made sushi tonight following your instructions and it was awesome - the whole family enjoyed! I got the supplies at a local Japanese store - Marukai.
