Looking for dog swim location

Location: Silicon Valley

Where can my dog swim? He's a Lab puppy, but I want to get him swimming as soon as I can. A few years ago I read about a lake in the bay area where lab owners can bring their dogs. Anyone know where it is, or have any general suggestions where I can bring my boy for a swim?

There is a lake in Livermore called Del Valle that has a special off leash trail and access to the lake. It is a bit of a drive (I lived in Palo Alto at the time) but my dog really enjoyed it.

Lots of swimming opportunities!

I brought my dog up to Chrissy Field in San Fran. Great off leash dog beach where the dogs can run around and swim in the bay. There are definitely A LOT of dogs there so distractions for a puppy are plentiful, but a great place to learn to swim.

Fort Funston in south san francisco has beach access for dogs. Also, I seem to remember an off-leash stream in Lexington Reservoir (Los Gatos) that was about a mile in on a hike that started near the reservoir. Not great detail, but you may want to study a map of that area and try checking it out. Have fun!
