My book club just finished Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. A good read - based loosely on 1980s hostage situation in Lima (but really, not a heavy book).
I've also heard Water for Elephants is great and super quick.

I also liked Bel Canto. I thought it was a bit silly but fun too.

I discovered this book by Carl Hiaasen at a garage sale and it was just what Dr. Mike ordered. Fun, quick read. I suspect all his books are similar (breezy Florida fiction).

Not sure if this appeals to guys as well, but I reviewed a book below that definitely falls under the description of "light". I guess it is a big movie now too.

Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flag. I laughed all of the way through.
