Pros:

Excellent instructors, history of olympians, outstanding facility, reputation

Cons:

Getting in may be a challenge because of its reputation

My daughter has been swimming at the Santa Clara Swim Club for 3+ years now. She started very young in a toddler program, and has had great instructors along the way. The school has a seasoned staff who are often backed by new instructors learning the skills.

The pace is reasonable with students being encouraged to progress, not being forced to skill up. Progression starts very basic with kicking and getting used to being in the pool. Eventually students graduate to basic strokes, then more advanced strokes and improved technique.

The classes for most students end when they have achieved the skills to enter one of the competitive programs in speed swimming. This appears to be one of the main aspects of the school: feeding kids into the competitive programs.

Getting in may be a challenge. Returning students and family members get priority for class slots. First-time parents may need to head over to the International Swim Center on a designated Saturday to complete the initial enrollment. Since class slots are limited, you may find yourself waiting on line much earlier than enrollment begins. I've heard of 8:00 arrivals for 10:00 enrollment already facing a line.
