I didn't really expect Apple would sell a Mac that (a) isn't horribly overpriced and (b) works with all the hardware I already have.

I wanted to dabble with building iPhone apps, but otherwise had no real need for a Mac, having a Dell desktop and a Sony laptop.

This new mini is not a bad deal at all. For $750 I got a 2Ghz core-duo CPU with 4GB of RAM and a 120GB drive. Apple still charges way too much for hard drives, so since the Mini has a fast built-in Firewire 800 port, I decided to get the smallest built-in drive and get a 1TB external Firewire 800 drive for an extra $150!

Throw in a slick and inexpensive IOGear KVM switch and I now have a setup where I am seamlessly using my PC keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers and printer with my Mini too, switching back and forth as I wish with just the press of a button. http://mobspin.com/rating/show/S55BHWYZ7DA

There are many better sites that compare Mac to PC, but if you already have a PC and are interested in the Mac too -- e.g., for superior image/video editing, or iPhone development, the new Mini is a compelling way to go.

Just make sure to max out the memory at 4GB -- macs eat up memory, and even 2GB seems insufficient for basic usage. (Apple's web site is a bit confusing, at first making it look like there are only 1gb and 2gb configurations, and look at cheap firewire drives for added storage.)
