Gombei
The sushi was excellent and the teriyaki salmon was better than at most places -- huge portion, nicely grilled on the outside, moist on the inside. Our kids couldn't stop eating. At one point Shanna spilled some water but before we could even blink a waiter was there to help clean it up. Overall a great spot to bring the kids but come early... 5 minutes later and I think we'd have been in for a looooong wait.

I wonder if they are related to Gombei's in Japan Town San Jose near 5th & Jackson? That particular one is my favorite for Tonkatsu Donburi.
Yep I think it's the same ownership, and they also own the Gombei in Menlo Park.I ate at the Menlo Park joint pretty often years ago when I was living nearby, but the menu was pretty different (no sushi). I think the food at the Santa Clara spot is better. Haven't been to the San Jose location.
My husband and I used to go to the Menlo Park location about once a month until he got scombroid (a type of food poisoning from bad fish) from the tuna sashimi on the large plate special dinner a couple of years ago. We know it was from the Gombei meal because your reaction in scombroid poisoning is pretty immediate.
